These were taken back in 1999 with my boyfriend's Canon EOS SLR on film. We spend 3 weeks in New York City after I finished my A-levels in the summer of 1999. Feels like it was yesterday and yet so long ago...Can't believe this is already 10 years. When we've been to New York City last year we coincidentally discovered our favorite Deli from 1999 again. And they still make the same fantastic tomato salad which we had back then more than once. I hope to visit New York soon again...I'm deeply in love with this city. Happy 4th of July!

Cherry Clafoutis
Some weeks ago I discovered a Clafoutis recipe in a magazine. Never having made a Clafoutis before I was curious about the recipe and how it tastes. And I instantly fell for it. I did several tweaks to the recipe to find out how I liked it best and this is what I came up with. For this recipe I used preserved Morello Cherries (which I always have in my pantry) but I can't wait to try it with fresh cherries. This recipe contains very little flour and I love the fluffy, egg-ish taste of it. If you like it more cake-y and less egg-y just add some more flour. This recipe is really easy and very adjustable to your personal taste. You can use almost any fruit as long as it is a a little bit tartish and juicy. And you can easily turn into a glute-free or nut-free recipe.
Recipe
5 Eggs
65g Sugar
200ml Cream (or Heavy Cream)
200ml Milk
1 tbsp Flour
30g pre-ground Almonds
30g melted Butter
200g pitted Cherries or any other fruits
Directions
- Preheat oven to 180° C (355° Fahrenheit)
- Melt butter.
- Butter a large (non stick) pie plate with some of the melted butter. (I used a 28cm/ 11 inch pie plate.)
- Add rest of the melted butter and all other ingedients in a large bowl or a food processor and mix thoroughly until everything is combined very well. But there is no need to beat the batter fluffy. For best results you may use a immersion blender for some additional seconds.
- Place cherries in the buttered pie plate.
- Pour batter over the cherries.
- Back for about 50-60 minutes at 180° C (355° F). If you have a hot air circulation oven use it for a fluffier result.

Sift some powdered sugar over the warm Clafoutis and eat it still warm with spoon right out of the pie pan. That's how I like it best. And that way you also do not have to worry about how to get it out of the pan in one piece (which is almost impossible anyway).
If you are on a gluten-free diet replace the flour with the same amount of pre-ground almonds. If you do not have pre-ground almonds at hand you may as well use an additional 1,5 tbsp of flour instead.
If you do not like cherries you can replace it with almost any other fruit. I can think of apples, blueberries, mangos,...I tried it with tangerines and it turned out awesome, too.

Untold stories
This is my 100th blog entry and I was palnning the share something more 'interesting', something more 'beautiful' than just some words. But somehow I have the hardest time incorporate blogging (as well as downloading images from my camera and editing them) into my daily routine. So I have tons of unedited images sitting here on my hard disk and I wonder if they ever find their way into this blog. Stories that I wanted to share but that remain untold. Images from the first Sushi I ever made in my life, from afternoons in the park, cake recipes, images from my new kitchen shelf and table,...
And there has also been a lot of work in the last months that made it hard to find time and inspiration to blog, too. More work than ever before actually. Interesting projects that I love(ed) to be part of. But there is also less money than ever before. I still have to pay taxes back from the last two years. And, well, I also have to prepay this year's taxes. And we needed a new car that has to pe paid, too. So as much as I wish that I could just sit back and relax and be happy about the steady work I can't. I spend way too much time worrying about all the payments that have to be met. If this is all working out. And as much as I try to distract myself from all the worries I can't find distraction while sitting in front of the computer and blogging. I try to spend more days outside with friends. I started painting again. Redecorated the balcony and planted some tomatoes and herbs. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. These are the days when I feel like all the worries are eating me up. And when I feel anything but but inspired.
So, well, I guess I jsut wanted to say I'm still alive but not having the best time of my life. And tell one of those many untold stories I wasn't able to share (yet).

Rifle Design by Anna Melcon Bond
I just have to share some of Anna's amazing work on my blog, too. Anna is specialized in hand painted illustraitons and lettering and makes the most awesome wedding invitations, brochures, stationary and other custom paper goods. And I really adore her style. She draws everything by hand and scans it afterwards. A workflow that I (unfortunately) have never become friends with as the scanner is an electronic device that I really hate to use. But it's so good to see that there are still talented people like Anna out there that draw by hand. I will always heart hand-drawn images over digitally drawn ones. There's nothing more beautiful than some hand-written words and a hand-shaded illustration. It reminds me that I haven't picked up a pencil for way too long.
Oh, and Anna has a lovely home, too (see the last two images). Check out Anna's portfolio, her weddings & events site and her blog with the best blog header ever!

Canada 2008: Pinks at Montréal Botanical Garden

I already posted some impressions fom Montréal Botanical Garden last year. But of course I took tons of images so I thought I'd share some more. More lovely shades fo pink. You can find the entry from last year here. If you ever happen to be in Montréal be sure to visit it and bring plenty of time. It was my most favorite place in Montréal. While it rained most of the three days we've been there this the weather was lovely.
More information can be found on the offical site of the Montréal Botanical Garden / Jardin botanique. (Dear people from the Montréal Botanical Garden, if you think about giving your website a new design drop me a line...it screams 'redesign me'...)
